Dr. Heng Cai was invited to give a talk at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on October 22, 2025, as part of the NSSTC Atmospheric and Earth Science Seminar Series, where she presented her research on geospatial approaches to understanding human dynamics during extreme weather events.
Her presentation, titled “Mapping Human Dynamics in Response to Extreme Weather Events Using Geospatial Big Data”, explored how communities respond and adapt to natural hazards through the lens of human-centered geospatial analytics. Drawing on case studies of winter storms and heatwaves, Dr. Cai demonstrated how integrating human mobility and other geospatial datasets can advance our understanding of disaster resilience and support data-driven strategies for risk reduction.
The seminar inspired engaging discussions among researchers and students on innovative, data-driven approaches to building more resilient communities.
